ABOUT US:

The Warehouse Arts District Association is now accepting proposals for its’ new Arts Education Center at the ArtsXchange on the Deuces Corridor. 515 22nd St South, St Petersburg, FL 33712.

We are looking for experienced and passionate educators in the visual, performing, and literary arts to join us in offering innovative publicly marketed and accessible programs in one of our unique classrooms. There are several ways you can engage with us!

 WE BELIEVE:

            We are all students waiting to discover

            We are all teachers waiting to share our gifts and passion

            Imagination, creativity, and process are as, if not more, important as product

            In making arts accessible to everyone

            In valuing art, artists, and educators for their cultural and economic contributions

            In creating innovative, unique, diverse, inclusive, and inspiring experiences

            In respecting all students for their desire to learn

 WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

In this form, We are looking for teaching artists who would like to propose a course to offer as part of the WADA programming. Classes will be offered year-round starting January 2022.

 You are welcome propose a variety of artistic mediums for school age students in the after school hours or adult courses in the morning, afternoon, and evening Monday-Sunday. Weekly classes of varying length and weekend workshops are welcome!

Audiences we would love to serve include but art not limited to: School ages: 6 to 18, young adults, senior, adults: beginner to advanced, seniors, veterans, and people with varied physical and developmental abilities.

Critiquing your own Artwork with Carol Dameron

Critiquing your own artwork is an important artistic habit that will guide you in describing, evaluating and expanding your own creative skills.  Critiques invite the encouragement and viewpoints of others while cultivating your own descriptive language.  As an artist, you will benefit from this dialogue with your peers. Please feel free to ask to have your piece anonymously discussed. 

Our format will be a 1.5-hour session. Each interested artist will share & receive feedback on the piece of artwork they bring to the critique.  All 2D mediums will be accepted.  We encourage artists interested in exploring the power of the critique who simply want to observe and absorb to also attend.

During this session you will learn critiquing skills alongside your peers.  Your ability to describe your work will improve in this supportive environment.

Carol will explore: 

• Key elements on how to critique your own work

• How to critique and gain an objective viewpoint 

• Using a constructive & positive approach supports our creative voice 

Carol Dameron began her formal art education at the Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana then continued at the Louvre Museum and The Centre Americain in Paris. Further studies at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Dijon, France and an appointment to the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam led to four years of landscape and plein air paintings in the countryside of southern Portugal. 

Her paintings and drawings are in the collection of the Polk Museum in Lakeland, Florida and the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, FL. Carol has exhibited at the Chad Mize Gallery in St Petersburg, Florida as well as the Gallery Onetwentyeight in New York City. She has received commissions from society portraiture, allegorical triptychs, murals and has numerous private collectors. Dameron taught anatomy and figure drawing at the Morean Arts Center from 1992-2004 and currently teaches classes on Wednesdays at Studio 620 as well as private sessions in St Petersburg, FL.

Celebrating the return to travel. Where are you going? A big city, a cabin in the woods, a remote landscape? Let us follow you on your journey.

Selected artworks fitting this theme submitted by WADA members, will be on exhibit for the month of July in the Burka Member Lounge at the ArtsXchange on the Deuces Corridor located in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District. The ArtsXchange campus is one of the most widely visited spots during Second Saturday Artwalk.

Come join us as WADA Artist Member, Kurt-Dale Watson, introduces digital tools to:

• Help us create reproducible elements in our artwork

• Guide us on how to use these tools 

• Apply themed elements such as patterns, layers, silhouettes and/or virtual frames for our art

Kurt-Dale Watson is a visual process artist. His interest in technology as a means for creative expression has led him to work with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Kurt-Dale has a bachelor in Science in Recording Arts from Full Sail University. His own creative work is a meditative process that tackles various, complex and personal ideas, connecting with his audience through themes such as death, rebirth, and cultural identity.

Do you remember where you were on September 11th, 2001? The memories from that day unite all Americans, and you are now called to create a work of art from those memories.

The new 'Rise' Monument in St. Pete is dedicated to the community heroes and first responders who sacrificed their lives on 9/11. This stunning installation will feature a piece of World Trade Center steel recovered from Ground Zero, a rising, 25-foot tall copper phoenix wing, and a water feature brought to life by hundreds of ceramic tiles contributed by YOU – members of the community who were shaped by the events of that day.  

 

We invite you to make history with us. 

Join us at this FREE event to create a tile that will become part of the monument itself! Instruction and materials will be provided.

In doing so, you will become a part of this continuing history and help our community work toward a more resilient, unified future.

Join WADA Member, Andrea Pawlisz, for a very special art opening at MIZE Gallery. 

Andrea is creating all new work for the show. The opening will be held on Friday, July 9th from 6pm to 9pm. The MIZE Gallery is located at 689 Dr M.L.K. Jr St N unit c, St. Petersburg, FL 33701.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

Having had a wonderful, playful childhood in the late sixties/early seventies, I have painted the games and activities I loved as a child: riding bikes, hopscotch, baseball. Each painting illustrates a figure in grayscale paired with colorful complementary background elements. All main figures are brush painted, with all the other elements spray painted. A limited color palette lends continuity, along with the use of the same font and spray treatment throughout.

Widening the scope of my canvas art, there are several 3D pieces: lunchboxes, paper airplanes, a rocking chair, a lap desk and a swing. Like the paintings, they are painted combining brush and spray.

My hope is that the viewer will have a sentimental memory of a time or place when they felt happy. Presenting this work is to remind us all the importance of play.

Thank you to Deb Zimmerman, who was not only muse and editor, but who offered unwavering encouragement and understanding. Thank you to Susan Howard, my bestie and mentor and collector, whose support and critique keep me and my work in line. Thank you to Chad Mize for his motivation, by setting an example of hard work. I so appreciate working with him and for him.
